Alan has a background working in dairy, vegetables and forestry in Scotland. Whilst working in Scotland Alan developed a close relationship with the Haygrove tunnel manufacturer, where about 500 ha are used to protect fruit and berry production in UK and Scotland.
Alan and his wife decided to move to New Zealand buying an Opaki property of 3.3 ha this has now grown to 20 ha. On this land Alan produces strawberries in a tabletop triple substrate system, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, blueberries and a small amount of tomatoes and Capsicums; all under Haygrove Tunnels. These berries are sold at the “Wee Red Barn” which is their Farm shop and retail outlet for the enterprise, the product is also sold in Greytown and Masterton at small stalls when in season and many Markets/Fairs.
