Dr Jodie Neal

Dr Jodi Neal co-leads the National Strawberry Varietal Improvement Program, a role she has undertaken since 2015. She and project lead Dr Mark Herrington work to produce improved strawberry varieties for all major Australian regions and systems, with a focus on the efficient, profitable production of robust, attractive, flavourful fruit.

Jodi commenced with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in 2011 as a plant breeder for both the macadamia and low-chill stonefruit breeding programs, before transferring to the national strawberry breeding program. Previously Jodi worked at the University of Queensland conducting quantitative genetic analyses of strawberry, sugar cane, and eucalypt breeding trial data.
